BUFFALO, New York – Erie County Democratic Committee Chair Jeremy Zellner today announced ECDC’s unanimous endorsement of Buffalo’s Carima El-Behairy for New York State’s 60th Senate District. A progressive Democrat and small business owner with a long history of volunteerism, El-Behairy is championing affordable education and healthcare for all, election reform, and preservation with development. A lifelong Western New Yorker, El-Behairy said, “I expect to represent all of you, because I live with you all.”
At an ECDC Executive Committee meeting held at the group’s downtown Buffalo headquarters, a motion was made to endorse El-Behairy by Bryan Ball, president of the Stonewall Democrats of Western New York, with Grand Island Democratic Committee chair Jim Sharpe seconding. A resounding third was offered by Vincent Gugliuzza, chair of the Evans Democratic Committee.
The ECDC announcement follows last week’s unanimous endorsement of El-Behairy by the Grand Island Democratic Committee. It was the first formal endorsement for the candidate, who grew up on the island and went through its public school system.
El-Behairy is running against Chris Jacobs, the incumbent Republican Senator who took office in January 2017.
