Carima El-Behairy, the progressive Democrat running for NYS Senate District 60, received the endorsement of the Women’s TAP Fund. The stated mission of the organization is “to bring more pro-choice women to politics in WNY.”
TAP is a non-partisan political action committee (PAC) that seeks to positively impact policies that affect women’s lives in a geographic region that has low representation of women elected to government. In making the endorsement, the TAP Fund noted of El-Behairy, “We see the energy and enthusiasm you bring to the race, and appreciate your commitment to the issue we champion.”
The Women’s TAP Fund is celebrating its 25th year of supporting pro-choice women candidates for public office in WNY and New York State. El-Behairy says, “I am proud to receive this endorsement. We see the erosion of a woman’s right to choose on the national stage, and New York’s Republican senate is complicit in those same strategies. That’s why I’m running—to stand for women’s rights, to fight back, to move forward. The Women’s TAP Fund is ‘pro-women, pro-family, pro-choice’ and I share those positions.”
Carima El-Behairy is a longtime supporter of a woman’s right to choose, a board member of her local Planned Parenthood office, and supporter of access to quality health care—particularly women’s health care. She states, “I will work to make sure our laws protect New York women from both federal actions and state GOP inaction. I will work to pass the Reproductive Health Act in the Senate.”
Carima El-Behairy is a small business owner with a record of service to the region’s health, education, and arts organizations. She is running on a platform of health care access and affordability, quality education (particularly universal pre-K), election reform, and preservation with sensible development.
In addition to the Women’s TAP Fund, El-Behairy is the endorsed candidate of the Democratic, Women’s Equality, and Working Families Parties’ for NY Senate, District 60.
